NEWS & UPDATES
The Campo Verde High School Bands held their last concert of the year on Thursday, May 10, featuring performances from the school’s Symphony Orchestra. The bands performed to a full auditorium under the Direction of Director of Bands, Matt Kozacek, Assistant Director of Bands, Taylor Mitchell, and Director of Orchestras, Crystal Payne.
The event served to bring the local community together for an unforgettable jazz experience. The full house loved hearing our student musicians and the band got to experience the "real world" of jazz gigging and performing in a restaurant atmosphere.
The Campo Verde Junior Varsity Guard (CV Green), Varsity Guard (CV Copper), and Indoor Percussion Ensemble (CVIPE) concluded a highly competitive season after performing at the WGAZ Championships held at the Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Arizona.
We are proud to announce the following CVHS student musicians, who earned a place in the All-State Honor Band. To achieve this successful outcome, these young musicians had to demonstrate musical maturity, among other key elements, to rank above hundreds of other Arizona musicians in the All-State audition process.
Audition materials for next year are now available for your 8th grade student to start working on! We will be scheduling with Mr. Bannon a time in mid to late April to come to SVJH and listen to students who want to audition. Auditions ARE NOT required. Student can stay in Concert Band or Jazz Band I if they would like.
Congratulations to the members of the Winter Guard Program (WGP) for delivering remarkable performances during the Winter Classic Tournament last Saturday. The varsity team performed their show “Revolution,” claiming second place and the JV team won third place after their stunning performance called “Stay.”
The highly competitive winter percussion season has begun, and the Coyote Pride Winter Drumline is ready for the challenge. To prepare for a successful season, the members of the drumline endure vigorous physical and mental training to learn and execute each move simultaneously while playing an instrument with confidence.
Winning a position in Jazz All-State is no small feat! Jaden Dupree auditioned against a number of other extremely talented guitarists through multiple rounds to win his position playing with one of the two featured ensembles for the weekend. There is only one guitarist position for each of the bands, so Jaden is one of the top two musicians that auditioned.
The band entertained thousands of live spectators who watched in awe as the band played upbeat melodies, including the popular song “Sweet Caroline.” The band also captured the attention of thousands of viewers who tuned in to watch the television broadcasts.
The concert kicked off with joyful Jazz classics inspired by Michael Collins-Dowden's "Big Noise From the North Pole," Alan Baylock's arrangement of "Go Tell It On The Mountain," and Roger Holmes arrangement of "Christmas Time is Here" composed by Vince Guaraldi, among other popular selections.
